Hi everyone, happy new art year!!
I got a new, larger pallette and ready to paint some fun stuff this year!
Every year my Foothills Art Association in La Mesa CA sponsors an "Old Masters" art show and I love this event. Last year I did a Monet and in 2018 a Sorolla piece. This year, I tackled one of my all time favorite artists, Winslow Homer (1836-1910) doing a rendition of his piece, "The Studio" done in 1867. He saw musicians practicing in an art studio in Paris and voila, this sketchy fun painting was born. As you see above, I put his oil painting up on my ipad and started first painting the surround loosely, then adding the front figure. It's so much fun to closely study the brushstrokes of masters and wonder about all the choices Homer made on light, color and detail. The original art is at the Met in NYC if you ever want to see it, I really do someday!!
You can visit the 2021 Old Masters show on the Foothills website to see all the pieces entered https://foothillsartassociation.com/ and you can vote on your top 3 favorites too via email to foothillsartassoc@gmail.com put "Peoples Choice Award" on your subject line. Finally, I have to grin, there are 5 Homer pieces of 32 in the show this year, I guess great minds think alike, out of all the possible artist choices out there that's pretty crazy!
Be well, happy, safe and healthy as we brushstroke our way thru 2021, enjoy art, do art, and be creative in any way you like!
Love and peace to all, Glenn
